A gas company in a country he had never worked in appoints him director. Starting package reported at a million a year, later cut to five hundred thousand. Relevant experience in the energy sector: none whatsoever.
The thank you note
An adviser to that same board emails to thank him for the introduction to his father, then the sitting vice president. For years the official line stayed the same: business was never discussed at the dinner table.
Ten for the big guy
A 2017 email splitting equity in a Chinese energy venture lists twenty percent for H and ten held by H for the big guy. Under questioning he eventually confirmed who the big guy was.
The canvases
No training, no career, straight into a New York gallery. Pieces listed as high as half a million, a million and a half sold in total, and a deliberate policy of never naming a single buyer.
The form
May 2018: he buys a revolver and ticks no on the question about drug use. Six years later a jury in his home state needs only a few hours to decide that box was a lie.
The tax bill
One point four million dollars of federal tax left unpaid across four years, while the money went almost everywhere else. He pleaded guilty and waited for a sentence that never arrived.
